THE PERFORMANCE LAB

To perform at the highest level, you need to know how to train efficiently and effectively. PERFORMANCE TESTING measures how your body performs during exercise and activity and provides valuable data for your training. It is a process of measuring how your body performs during exercise and activity. It helps to identify your strengths and weaknesses, improve your performance, and prevent injury. Testing can be customized to your specific sport and uses the latest technology to assess various aspects of your fitness, such as flexibility, strength, breath control, posture, and more.

Our lab prides itself on a systematic testing approach to solving problems. You provide us with the data; we make educated decisions regarding your body, your exercise and your performance. We can use this data to assess athletic talent, identify physical abilities, strengths, weaknesses, areas in need of improvement. This data can be used to evaluate, set goals, or to determine the need for possible changes in the training program.

We are pleased to officially welcome Todd Buckingham to the PT Sports PRO team. Todd earned his Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from MSU in 2018. He has played a critical role in helping us develop our state-of-the-art PERFORMANCE LAB. He brings his expertise in testing & analytics to our program together with his passion for performance as evidenced by his personal accomplishments as a runner & a local, National, and World Champion Triathlete.

PERFORMANCE TESTS:

Full body DXA scan: A non-invasive way to measure body composition. Measures muscle mass, body fat, & bone density (helps determine risk of osteoporosis). NOTE: Do not consume calcium supplements within 24 hours of your appointment.

  • Initial: $150
  • Follow-up: $125

VO2 max: Tests cardiovascular endurance by measuring maximal aerobic capacity. Helps determine how well one’s body can take in, transfer, and utilize oxygen to fuel exercise performance. NOTE: Let us know if you would like a treadmill test or a bike test prior to your session.

  • Initial: $175
  • Follow-up: $150

Lactate threshold: Helps to identify the upper limit of a sustainable pace or speed in training and racing. NOTE: Let us know if you would like a treadmill test or bike test prior to your session.

Resting metabolic rate (RMR): Metabolism describes how the body uses energy/food to meet the body’s demands, even when physical work/exercise is required. Knowledge of resting metabolic rate can help create personal training & nutrition plans, monitor body composition, or improve health status. NOTE: please avoid food, caffeine, alcohol, and exercise for 12 hours prior to testing. Continue to take any medications as prescribed

Pulmonary function: Uses spirometry to measure total lung capacity, how much air is exchanged during a given amount of time, and different rates of air flow. Helps to determine obstructive or restrictive problems in lungs.

Sweat composition analysis: One size does not fit all when it comes to hydration. This test helps us understand the sodium concentration of YOUR sweat to personalize hydration plans for you.
